Why In-Game Advertising May Be the Next Big Thing

A 2021 report from research firm Newzoo concludes that the global games market is on track to exceed $204 billion in 2023. With three billion players worldwide, video games offer unlimited lucrative opportunities for marketers looking to reach traditionally difficult Millennial and Gen Z audiences. Yet for the vast majority of brands, in-game advertising remains unchartered territory. There is a slow but steady shift in marketing towards organic, non-interruptive in-game events and brand experiences that not only enhance games but are openly welcomed and actively engaged with by users.

Currently CEO/Managing General Partner of Catalyst S&F, a marketing consulting firm in San Francisco, Durham is a true industry veteran. He most recently served as Executive Vice President, business strategy at Carat Fusion for Carat’s offices across the country including New York, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Prior to that, Durham was a founder of Pericles communication, a political digital firm that helped advocacy and political groups tap into interactive marketing. Durham handled the online advertising strategy for five candidates, including the presidential and four senatorial races. SFBIG is a non-profit professional association dedicated to connecting brands, agencies, media, and technology partners globally.

Julian Douglas, or Dougie as he is better known, is the Vice Chairman of the VCCP Partnership. He joined the agency in 2008, having previously worked at WCRS, BB, TBWA, and Grey London twice. With over 20 years of experience, Dougie has created some of the world’s most successful campaigns, both in the UK and internationally for brands including Audi, Lynx, O” Telefonica, Domino’s, and Nationwide. The IPA is the UK’s oldest, most distinguished trade body for advertising, recognized as one of the most influential organizations in the industry and a founding member of eleven Joint Industry Committees (JICs) set up to track advertising performance. In recognition of the training and education of its members, the IPA was awarded a Royal Charter in 2017.
