Meet Kelly Burke

What human quality do you most admire and also most deplore?

I feel authentic is a term that is way too overused these days, but I admire the characteristics that go into authenticity, mainly the ability to be fiercely yourself. I most deplore smugness.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

All things Bravo TV. Sorry, not sorry.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A music festival with my friends, in the sunshine, lots and lots of laughs.

What is the app you wish someone would invent?

This has been top of mind lately, as we try to plan out our events for the rest of the year. I’d love to see an app that compiles all of the restaurants/bars/clubs and helps you find event space for any sized event, from a 20 person dinner to a 300 person gala with details/pricing.

In this short time, any tips from working from home

Take advantage of not having to dress “business casual” but do pull yourself together- don’t get caught in the sweatpants/yoga pants downward spiral! Take many breaks throughout the day. I use the BeFocused app that has you map out your projects for the day and has you work in 25-minute increments with 5-minute breaks. I use my 5-minute breaks to stretch and do some house chores a little at a time.

What is the most fun in your job?

Witnessing people having their “a-ha” moments and turning a corner in their life and/or career.

Any secret places/hang out/food in the Bay Area that you can clue us in on?

Most people who know me, know I love a good dive bar. Right now, the owners of Shanghai Kelly’s (Russian Hill) and the Northstar (North Beach) are selling “Future Drinks” in an attempt to help the bartenders and staff keep afloat during this time. . Future drinks cost $5 each for drinks valued up to $8. What a fun way to help out a couple of local businesses while we ride out this time.
