Meet David Shimada

What human quality do you most admire and also most deplore?

Honesty and being genuine.  If someone can’t be honest, there is no trust. I think of a phrase “Yes, means yes”.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Strawberry ice cream, ok that was a boring response.  Based on something such as a film, or music that is not generally held in high regard or seen as unusual/weird, I would say I used to watch a Japanese program called “Majide” or in English “I Survived a Japanese Game Show.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Perfect happiness to me is the health of myself and family. The other perfect moment is when I make my wife laugh. It is the best feeling in the world when I make her laugh to tears. That makes me laugh to tears.

What is the app you wish someone would invent?

Future prediction app, an app that could tell you what’s to come.  Perhaps, that would have helped to liquidate my stock portfolio before January 2020.

In this short time, any tips from working from home?

Well this question is quite timely as we shelter in place.  However, I have worked from my home office for the past four years.  I think the best tip I can provide, is to be in the same mindset as if you were in the office. Since, I’m in sales, I like to dress appropriately, no pajamas for me. The other tip is to create a space/home office, where the space is dedicated to work. Stay healthy and safe everyone.

What is the most fun in your job?

The most fun for me and my job is that the industry is in early stages and exploding. It reminds me of early start up days. It’s exciting to help shape and be part of a rapidly growing organization.

Any secret places/hang out/food in the Bay Area that you can clue us in on?

Oh, I love this question. But it might be a while for you all to visit and enjoy. A few come to mind, when I think of favorite places for food/wine. Verjus in SF would be my favorite, big wine list, food changes based on season, the “pain perdu” is the best, Dopo in Oakland, the dopo pizza is one of a kind and Bartavelle Wine Bar in Berkeley.
